Flyers president and former general manager Paul Holmgren has a long, lengthy history as an executive and advisor with USA Hockey, and that will continue for next year’s World Cup of Hockey.
Holmgren was named the assistant general manager of Team USA for the 2016 event, which will be held in Toronto from September 17 to October 1 next year. He’ll serve under general manager Dean Lombardi, of the Los Angeles Kings, and he’ll work with Jim Johansson and Brian Burke on the management team as well.

There’s no salary cap at the World Cup. Don’t worry, guys.
8 teams will participate in the World Cup, which is a joint venture between the NHL and the NHLPA and will be broadcast in the United States by ESPN.
In addition to the United States, nations icing teams will include Canada, Sweden, Finland, Russia and the Czech Republic. The rest of Europe will be represented by one so-called Super Team, and the USA and Canada will form an under-23 YoungStars team. Players under 23 will not be eligible to play for the USA or Canada.
