We don’t usually have to worry about the IIHF World Championships around these parts, considering they take place during the Stanley Cup Playoffs and everything. But this year is a bit different, and four members of your Philadelphia Flyers are set to join Team Canada for the annual tournament.
TSN reports that Claude Giroux, Matt Read, Wayne Simmonds and Luke Schenn will all join Team Canada for the tournament, which begins on May 3 this year in Stockholm, Swe. and Helsinki, Fin. Other players joining the team include Steven Stamkos, Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle.
The roster hasn’t been finalized just yet, and we’ll assume that a few more Flyers could join some of the other teams in the tournament as well — Jakub Voracek on the Czech team, for example. Phantoms goalie Cal Heeter has already joined Team USA and forward Marcel Noebels has joined Team Germany.
NBC Sports Network will televise all of Team USA’s games in this year’s World Championships, which run through May 19. More details here.
