Sean O’Donnell signed with the Philadelphia Flyers a year ago today. Now, he’s signing somewhere else. TSN’s Bob McKenzie reported that he’s signed a one-year, $850,000 deal with the Chicago Blackhawks.
It’s not surprising, really. SOD definitely wore down over the course of the season with the Flyers last year, and it’s looking as though the Flyers would prefer to add some youth to the blueline — although basically anybody is youth compared to him. He was a nice piece for a year and he’s probably one of the most thoughtful guys on the team, but as a sixth defenseman, losing him isn’t really all that big of a deal.
Oskars Bartulis or Erik Gustafsson or, hell, maybe even Kevin Marshall will likely battle for the sixth D spot this year. That is, if the Flyers don’t pick somebody up.
