BSH prospect report: Home stretch

The news of the week

It’s been a pretty quiet week around here! We’ll talk a little more about this later, but the big news of the week is that playoffs will be continuing somewhere in the Flyers organization, generally, at least. Their ECHL affiliate in Reading knocked off the Maine Mariners over the weekend, and they’re off to the second round of the Kelly Cup playoffs. Hooray!

What’s up with the Phantoms?

The Phantoms are still out of the playoffs. That hasn’t changed. There isn’t anything to update you on here, and this is likely the last week we’ll see this section in the prospect report until the fall when things pick back up for them again. All of that said, we will take this opportunity to plug a bit of content from last week.

For the data inclined, we tracked a bunch of shot and transition data from their first round games against the Checkers, and broke down what we could take away from that. You can find all of that below, but the short summary is that Things Did Not Go Well.

Taking a deep dive into the Phantoms’ first round exit
Things did not go to plan, and we’re here to talk about it.

The prospect world tour

Alright, we’ll get back to the Royals now, since we mentioned them already. It’s nice to see someone in this organization having some success in a playoff run, and the pair of Flyers’ prospects down in Reading are leading the charge. In their last four games played, they got a nice bit of production from Zayde Wisdom, who chipped in two goals and an additonal assist, along with 12 shots on goal, as he’s stepping up as a consistent driver of offense for the team. Mason Millman, too, has similarly stepped up in that department – he contributed two assists and 11 shots on goal over that same span of time.

We’ve made this joke a few times before, that Alexis Gendron had a quiet week when he’s “only” scored like three goals and two assists but the three goals wasn’t a hat trick, but sincerely, he had himself a quiet week this time around. It was two losses for Gatineau this week, and Gendron had just one assist in those games.

Speaking of actually very quiet weeks, over in Peterborough, it was three games played for the Petes this week, and zero points scored for both J.R. Avon and Brian Zanetti in that time.

But Alex Bump gets the prospect productivity back on track, so that’s good news. His postseason run with Tri-City has been successful so far, and he’s picked up a tidy three goals and one assist in his last four games played.

And finally, we’re sorry to close this thing out with bad news, but we have to close things out with bad news. Samu Tuomaala and his Kettera squad made it to the finals in Mestis’s playoffs, but they fell just short to Keikko-Espoo in their series. Tuomaala did score a goal and an assist in his three games played, so his play was still solid, but the team result wasn’t quite there in the end. So it goes.
