Michael Leighton‘s injury situation continues to get worse.
Initially, nothing was wrong. Leighton left a preseason game against the Maple Leafs with a slight back injury Then, the Flyers admitted something was wrong with his back and that they hoped he’d be good to go in a few days. A few days later, the team announced that Leighton, who signed a two-year contract extension in late June, would be on the shelf for a month.
Today, the news got worse. Leighton will be out for 6 to 8 more weeks after surgery on that back. The team announced the news.
To the outside observer, this slow progression in the severity of Leighton’s condition would likely seem out of the ordinary. To the typical Flyers fan, though, this is just the norm. The team is never forthright with us when it comes to these injuries. This situation has been no different. Let’s hope that, for Leighton’s sake, things don’t get even worse from here on out.
