Martin Brodeur has made a lot of history against the Flyers in the last decade-plus of his career, most notably when he broke Bernie Parent’s record for wins in a season back in 2007 (which was obviously helped by the shootout and whatnot, meaning Bernie’s still better, but I digress).
Tonight, he’ll make a much different kind of history. For the first time since 2004, Brodeur will sit on the bench, healthy, for the second straight game. From Tom Gulitti at the Bergen Record:
Hedberg will start his second consecutive game tonight when the Devils host the Flyers. It will be the first time since January of 2004 that Brodeur has dressed as the backup for two games in a row.
In reality, seeing Brodeur in net would probably be better right now. Johan Hedberg beat the Flyers in a shootout just a little over a month ago, and Brodeur’s been pulled in two of his last three games. He hasn’t won a game since December 15th. On the bright side, there’s still a chance he could play on Saturday…
Who would’ve thought? The day we want to see Martin Brodeur in the net has finally come.
