Simon Gagne was an option for the Flyers this free agent year. He could’ve returned to town, and while it actually may not have been the perfect fit for this team at this point, I don’t think any of us would have cared.
He won’t be back. The Los Angeles Kings just announced that their team has reached a verbal agreement on a two-year contract with Gags, and he’ll be reunited with Mike Richards and the rest of Flyers West. Rich Hammond of LAKings.com reports that it’s a two year deal worth $7 million, or $3.5 million per year.
Now, the Flyers don’t have many options left in terms of picking up a forward in free agency. Looking at the list we went over yesterday, we can scratch off Brad Richards (ha), Tim Connolly (ha again), Gagne, Michal Handzus, Sean Bergenheim and Anthony Stewart. Still some options, but they are beginning to get thinner.
