Cuts!
The first round of cuts were made on Monday from Philadelphia Flyers training camp and, well, no surprises. A bunch of junior-level players, including promising invitee Tomas Hyka, 2011 draft picks Nick Cousins, Derek Mathers Colin Suellentrop and Marcel Noebels, and 2010 pick Brendan Ranford have all been returned to their junior clubs.
The cuts also mean that just three non-roster invitees remain in camp: Michael Nylander, Adam Mair and Garrett Roe, a small forward out of St. Cloud State.
The full list of cuts: Etienne Boutet, Ricard Blidstrand, Shayne Campbell, Nick Cousins, Campbell Elyniuk, Austin Fyten, Sam Grist, Simon Gronvaldt, Michael Houser, Tomas Hyka, Derek Mathers, Jonathan Narbonne, Marcel Noebels, Brendan Ranford, Colin Suellentrop.
55 players are left in camp. Notables that made it through this round of cuts: Sean Couturier, Brandon Manning (the only junior-level defenseman remaining), Jason Akeson (same deal) and Roe, who clearly must have done something right to avoid the first cuts.
Here’s the link to our running roster, which has been updated with the cuts.
