Baby Flyers to host Baby Capitals on September 15

I was in Las Vegas over the weekend, enjoying a beer or 12 with J.P. from SB Nation’s Japers’ Rink, and we were chatting a bit about the annual rookie game between the Flyers and Capitals that’s taken place the last few years at rookie camp. There hadn’t been an announcement, and we were wondering if our teams would keep the tradition going.

I’m guessing J.P. just called up Ted Leonsis and got shit done, because today the Flyers announced that they’ll host the Baby Caps at the Wells Fargo Center on September 15 at 5 p.m. Smoothie King is the sponsor, and I’m sure there’s a joke in there somewhere.

It’s the first time the game will be held at the WFC. Over the last few years, it’s been held at either the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, or the Capitals practice facility, the Kettler Iceplex in Arlington, Va. Tickets will be free and there will be a live stream on the Flyers website, although last year’s stream from Kettler was horrible and barely worked. Let’s hope they fix that this time.
