BSH prospect report: On a tear

The news of the week

We had a bit of big news this week, and it’s at least prospect tangentially related. The Flyers named Keith Jones their new President of Hockey Operations, and removed the interim tag, making Danny Briere their official new General Manager.

A lot’s being made about rebuilding, and rebuilding right, but so far, everyone else in the front office is staying put. We mention this just as something to keep an eye on. It’s a whole new era, we’re told, and changes might be coming (or not coming!) to how drafting and development are approached around here. Either way, it will be interesting to see how things play out.

The prospect world tour

We’ve been keeping up with the playoff run over in Reading, and it’s bad news about that one this week, as that has come to an end. They were able to pick up one win over the weekend to avoid getting swept, but in the end, Newfoundland was able to knock them off in five games. It’s not all bad news though! For us, the Flyers prospect watchers, there’s a bit of solace to be found in the fact that both Mason Millman and Zayde Wisdom were able to show well in the very end to their playoff stretch, as they were both able to chip in a goal and two assists in those last three games.

Elsewhere, though, playoffs continue! Peterborough was able to close out their series with a Game 7 win over North Bay, and move on to face London, where they’ve split their first two games. No points for either J.R. Avon or Brian Zanetti against London yet, but they did close out their last series well. In that Game 7, Avon put up a goal (the game winner), and Zanetti chipped in two assists (one of which came on that game winner), which earned them first and second star honors for the night. How lovely!

And finally, things are going pretty well for the US team in the World Championships, their offense is going well, and both Cutter Gauthier and Ronnie Attard have been nice contributors to that. It’s all goals for everybody, and Gauthier has two so far.

And Attard was able to get in on the action and pick up a goal of his own, to boot.

How’s that for good news for you, Flyers fans, in the month of May? It’s not much, but it can happen!
