Paul Holmgren hospitalized after bike accident at Jersey Shore

As reported by Tim Panaccio at CSNPhilly.com, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren was injured in a Labor Day bike accident in Avalon, N.J. He suffered a broken shoulder and broken ribs, according to the report, and is listed in stable condition at Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

That’s all we know about Holmgren’s condition.

The fact that Homer was transported from Avalon to Cooper indicates that his injuries could have been quite serious, although that’s just speculation at this point. Cooper operates the only Level I Trauma Center in Southern New Jersey, one of only three in the entire state.

Cape Regional Medical Center, the closest hospital to Avalon, does not have a trauma center. The only hospital closer with a trauma unit is AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, which houses a Level II center, inferior to that at Cooper. There are 61 miles between Avalon and Camden.

The news that he’s in stable condition is obviously welcome. Get well soon, Homer. We have hockey to be played in two weeks.
