There’s not much to say about today’s Game 6 at Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers can make us all feel silly about this mini-panic attack with just three short hours of hockey today, or they can send an entire city and region into cardiac arrest. It’s their choice.
I’m convinced this Flyers team is better than this Pittsburgh Penguins team. I’ve seen too many games between the two teams this season to think otherwise. The Flyers have effectively shut down Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby all year long, they’ve shown Marc-Andre Fleury to be human more often than not, and they’ve won the special teams battle throughout the season series and this playoff series. They can score against them and they can shut them down, and they only have to do it one more time this season.
I think the Flyers believe they’re a better team as well, and they have the chance to go out there and prove it. The City of Pittsburgh is frothing at the mouth at the possibility of coming back from an 0-3 deficit against these Flyers, but with a win today, the orange and black can kick them in the teeth with a rather convincing 4-2 series win, regardless of what’s played out in the two most recent games.
It’s time for this to end. We should have expected Pittsburgh to make this a series, and to their credit, they have. But today, in front of a crowd that puts Consol Energy Center’s we-wear-the-same-color-as-the-opposition crowd to shame, the Flyers can force handshakes. If they play their game and they stay out of the penalty box, they’ll do just that. Impose your will, boys.
Ben, Geoff and myself recorded a podcast yesterday afternoon in the run up to Game 6. You can listen to it right here. Our game thread will be up at 11 a.m. for today’s 12 p.m. start on NBC.
