We all know Jeremy Roenick enjoyed seeing the Chicago Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup back in 2010. Some of us took a personal affront to Roenick’s gleaming pride and streaming tears following the ‘Hawks Game 6 win over the Flyers at the Wachovia Center that year, but I think we can all understand where it came from.
Roenick loved Philadelphia and he no doubt would have been happy to see the Flyers win as well, but Chicago was the team that drafted him. He played there for parts of eight seasons and it was his first NHL home. We can forgive that.
BUT WAIT A MINUTE HERE J.R.
Q: Did you enjoy seeing the Blackhawks win the Cup in 2010?
A: Extremely and I loved seeing the Boston Bruins win it the next year.
That’s from a Deadspin chat Roenick did on Monday. He just offered up, completely unsolicited, that he “loved” seeing Boston win the Stanley Cup. Boston!
Boston, the team that knocked the Flyers out of the playoffs that season. Boston, the home of this little jerk. Boston, the team that employs this guy and this guy. Boston, the team owned by this slimy dude.
Update: … okay, so Roenick is FROM Boston. That doesn’t make it okay!
