To recap everything that’s gone on in free agency so far, first from the Flyers’ end:
- From Thursday: Claude Giroux locked up long-term. Eight years, $66.2 million beginning in 2014.
- Also from Thursday: Adam Hall locked up short-term. One year, $600,000.
- From Friday: Ray Emery is your second goalie. One year, $1.65 million.
- Also from Friday: Yann Danis is your second AHL goalie. He’ll work with Cal Heeter in Adirondack for one year on a two-way deal; should he ever be called up to the NHL, his deal would be worth $675,000.
- Initial reports were that Simon Gagne and the Flyers had agreed on money and were just trying to find some room to make it work, but Paul Holmgren has since denied those reports, so who knows what’s going on there.
There have been some other rumors, including some French reports about a trade with Montreal that may involve Max Talbot, but nothing confirmed there. So we wait in the meantime.
Other big news around the rest of the league:
- The largest contract of the day goes to the Blue Jackets, who gave Nathan Horton $37.1 million over seven years. He can’t play till December because of a shoulder problem, though.
- Just behind that was Toronto, who gave former Devil David Clarkson seven years and $36.75 million. They also gave Tyler Bozak five years and $21 million. Toronto doesn’t seem to be taking it well.
- Ottawa’s had a busy day. First they found out they lost Daniel Alfredsson to the Red Wings. While they were mourning that loss, a few hours later the Sens turned around and traded for Bobby Ryan. RIP Bobby-Ryan-to-Philly rumors for probably at least the next two years.
- Iginla to Boston. But actually this time. One year, $6 million.
- Some other things that happened: Stephen Weiss to the Wings for five years at $4.9 million per, the Isles re-upped Travis Hamonic for seven years at $3.85 million per, Mike Ribiero went to Phoenix for four years at $5.5 million each, Valtteri Filppula to Tampa at five years for $5 million per, Ryane Clowe to New Jersey at $4.85 million a year for five years, Viktor Stalberg to gets four years and $12 million from Nashville, Rob Scuderi returns to Pittsburgh for four years and $13.5 million, and plenty of other deals that you can see a list of here and read about here.
