The Two O’Clock Number: 4

4 – the number of trades that Paul Holmgren has made as Flyers general manager on a season’s trade deadline.

February 27, 2007: Flyers trade a 2007 second-round pick to Buffalo for goaltender Martin Biron.
March 4, 2009: Flyers trade Scottie Upshall and a 2011 second-round pick to Phoenix for Daniel Carcillo.
February 28, 2011: Flyers trade Michael Chaput and Greg Moore to Columbus for Tom Sestito.
April 3, 2013: Flyers trade Michael Leighton and a 2015 third-round pick to Columbus for Steve Mason.

Again, these are just moves that have happened on the day of the deadline. There are several others that have happened in the time leading up to the deadline, and in fact most of the higher-profile in-season moves that the Flyers have made in recent years (i.e. trades for Braydon Coburn, Vinny Prospal, Kris Versteeg, Nicklas Grossman – at the time, with one n in his last name!) have taken place in the weeks or days before the deadline.

Are we going somewhere with this? Maybe. Stay tuned.
