28 – The number of Flyers’ shots blocked by the Rangers last night.
Even though the Flyers put up a ton of shot attempts in game 3 — 80, to be precise — the Rangers were able to stymie a good number of them before the puck had the chance of hitting the net.
We’ve often been quick to point out that blocked shots are kind of a misleading metric of successful play. After all, in order to block a shot, the other team has to generate it in the first place. Luckily the high number of blocked shots last night is directly related to the Flyers ability to create a high number of shots.
That being said, shot blocking still requires skill, and it seems the Rangers are ready and willing to deploy it when necessary.
