A list of things Philadelphia Flyers fans should be thankful for

  • Jake Voracek and Claude Giroux, obviously.
  • Claude Giroux’s chirping. (And microphones.)
  • Whatever Jake Voracek is doing here.
  • Wayne Simmonds on the power play.
  • Everybody on the Flyers’ top power play unit.
  • Kimmo Timonen, even if he never plays again.
  • Kimmo Timonen, simply for being alive.
  • The Phantoms, back in Pennsylvania where they belong.
  • The Flyers’ entire broadcast team, both on television and on radio. From JJ to Coatesy to everybody in between, they are all fantastic.
  • Young, promising talent, including but not limited to: Shayne Gostisbehere, Scott Laughton, Travis Sanheim, Robert Hagg, Samuel Morin, etc.
  • Steve Mason, who … OK, let’s just say it … has been #good in Philadelphia.
  • The beat writers covering this team, for always keeping things … uhh, interesting?
  • John LeClair and Eric Lindros’ names hanging from the Wells Fargo Center rafters.
  • Paul Holmgren, for being the ballsiest general manager in NHL history, and for winning the Mike Richards and Jeff Carter trades. (YEAH I SAID IT)
  • Ron Hextall, for being Ron Hextall.
  • Ron Hextall’s (and Paul Holmgren’s) penchant for finding obscure European dudes who are good at hockey, like Raffl and Bellemare.
  • Ron Hextall’s temper.
  • The Pittsburgh Penguins and their fans, the gift that keeps on giving.
  • The NHL, for gaming the system in favor of the Flyers with that whole Chris Pronger thing.
  • And of course, the Philadelphia Flyers, who aside from a few off years are basically good at hockey all the damn time; who give out-of-town fans a connection to their hometown; who give us all our connection to the best sport in the world; who, even when they’re bad, are the most fun team to root for in the NHL./
