Luke Schenn makes the Flyers opening night lineup, Radko Gudas scratched

On Saturday morning, Andrew MacDonald and Luke Schenn skated on the fourth pairing and appeared to be new coach Dave Hakstol’s choices as healthy scratches for the season opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Four days later, MacDonald is with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and Schenn has earned his way back into the starting lineup.

Hakstol announced this morning that Luke Schenn would replace Radko Gudas in the Flyers‘ lineup for Thursday night’s opener against the Lightning. He will be paired with preseason star Evgeni Medvedev.

While Schenn was not a standout in the preseason, he outplayed Gudas, who showed serious signs of rust after missing all but 31 games last season. He struggled in particular with engineering breakouts – one of the strengths of Schenn’s game.

The pairings for opening night tentatively are as follows:

Mark StreitNick Schultz

Evgeni Medvedev – Luke Schenn

Michael Del ZottoBrandon Manning
