Ryan White out 2-4 weeks with upper-body injury

The Philadelphia Flyers picked up a big win in Raleigh last night against the Carolina Hurricanes, but they didn’t leave the game fully unscathed. Fourth line forward Ryan White left the game in the third period after suffering an apparent shoulder injury and did not return.

Today, the team learned the extent of the damage to White.

Flyers coach Dave Hakstol has relied heavily on his fourth line so far this year, with White a key piece. The return of Pierre-Edouard Bellemare last night gave Philadelphia back their opening night fourth line center, but now they lose the line’s starting right wing.

The team does not need to recall a forward from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms as a result of the injury, however. The recent call-up of Taylor Leier and Bellemare’s return gives the team thirteen forwards, more than enough for a full lineup. But the injury does most likely lock Leier into the lineup for the foreseeable future, and also gives Hakstol an immediate reason to bring Brayden Schenn out of the press box.
