Do you remember the last time you watch a Flyers player score three goals in one game? Beyond last night, I mean. Brayden Schenn’s hat trick was great – and really, considering he had four goals on the night (that first one was definitely a goal), he should have been doing the Joe Thornton celebration – but it also broke a 26 month-long drought.
Before Schenn, the last Flyers hat trick in the regular season came on Oct. 23, 2013, in a 5-2 win over the New York Islanders. (It was an away game, so the likelihood of hats being thrown weren’t as great.) And who scored t?
Oh… you know… Vincent Lecavalier.
Now there was a name, huh? Remember that guy? Wonder what he’s up to. Not really though.
So it’s about time the Flyers got some new hat-throwing blood in there. As Elias Sports Bureau, Inc. further explains, the Flyers went 215 straight games without a single three-goal game from one of their players. It was the second-longest drought in the NHL; the Florida Panthers remain hatless after 255 straight games.
The clock has been reset now! May there be hat tricks for everybody!
