Three Stars
1. Phil Myers
The Myers breakout continues, with another snipe goal tonight. Ever since his call-up, he’s looked like the player we all expected to win the sixth defenseman job out of training camp. Along with his offensive production, he’s making the smart reads defensively, and playing a strong physical game which was very evident in this game.
If he can continue this level of play, the Flyers defense becomes all the more terrifying to deal with. What makes him all the more valuable of course is his handedness, giving the Flyers three solid right-handed defensemen. This is something they haven’t had for as long as I can remember, but if it continues, it’s quite the luxury.
2. Carter Hart
After facing just 10 shots through two periods, Hart was spectacular in the third despite giving up two goals that lead to the game heading to overtime. Without the saves he was making, Boston very well could have won this game 5-2 in regulation, getting high percentage chance after high percentage chance. Hart got this team the one point, and then was amazing in the shootout to pick up the final one, completing a miraculous weekend sweep.
3. The Couturier line
Is it cheating to give an entire line one star? Maybe, but picking just one of these guys would be so brutally unfair. Each member was up to their old tricks, getting the cycle game going and creating tons of scoring chances. Even with Sean Couturier unable to take faceoffs on this line due to his shoulder sprain, they’ve been able to dominate their opponents seemingly from the start of every shift. Travis Konecny also scored his eighth goal of the season, tying him with linemate Oskar Lindblom for the team lead.
Answering the Bell
1. How tired will they be?
Surprisingly, not very! The Flyers came out from the jump with more energy, and winning most of the puck battles. After going to a shootout vs. a tough team to play against in the Leafs, this was just a fantastic effort to put on. Boston was a game away from winning the Stanley Cup last season, so it’s not like the Flyers drew the Ottawa Senators here on the second half of the back-to-back.
To come out with the effort they had (and hopefully secure two points), against a damn good team in the Bruins, was so refreshing to see. I can’t remember the last time I saw a Flyers team play that well in a back-to-back situation.
2. Can Carter Hart hold down the fort?
Held down the fort and then some. Don’t want to speak too soon, but I think he’s out of whatever that funk was he was in. Hart looks more like his old self, and that’s very fun to watch.

Has to be the Myers goal. The puck movement on this goal was simply sensational, and then it was topped off by Myers sniping.
