Three Stars
1. Morgan Frost
Frost was one of the few Flyers who actually looked good in this game, and he even got his first NHL goal to boot. He was responsible defensively, and was all over the puck offensively. It was just his first game, but Frost looked more than comfortable the moment he stepped on the ice. There was a great deal of confidence in the kid, and he put it all on display tonight.
2. Travis Sanheim
Sanheim continued his dominance over Sergei Bobrovsky, scoring his fifth career goal vs. the Panthers netminder. That makes five out of Sanheim’s 13 career NHL goals coming vs. Bobrovsky, one of the better goalies in the entire league. Just in case you forgot how weird the sport of hockey can be, there’s that fact. Outside of the goal, the Flyers blueliner was generating offense all night, and was driving play at a solid rate.
3. Joel Farabee
Outside of the turnover that led in part to the third Panthers goal, Farabee had a solid game. He was a pest on the forecheck as he usually is, and was a big reason the Couturier line didn’t miss a beat without Travis Konecny. His mistake was a big one, but as a whole, he played a solid game.
Answering the Bell
1. Can the penalty kill rebound?
They were one of the positives from this game, including a great four minute kill on a Phil Myers double minor. The Flyers struggled mightily defensively in this game, but they were stout on the kill and kept them in the game for longer than they should have been. It’s been nice to see that whenever they have a rough game, they typically respond with a game like this. If only the team did that at 5-on-5.
2. Will the new lines meet expectations?
* audible fart *
The Joel Farabee, Sean Couturier, Oskar Lindblom line was the best, but outside of that the rest continued to struggle. The Giroux and Frost combination had its moments, but nothing sustainable enough to really be considered as having a great game. And of course having the three players slumping the most on a line together went just about as expected.
Play of the Night
Couldn’t be anything other than the first NHL goal for Morgan Frost, and boy was it a beauty.
