That should put some butts in seats.
The Philadelphia Flyers, who entered the game with one of the leagues best points-percentages on home ice (.675) added a couple more points to their total with a dominant 6-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
Buffalo, missing Jack Eichel, put up little resistance in this one. Mikhail Vorobyev gave Philly the lead in the latter half of the first period, and then 90 seconds later James van Riemsdyk scored his first of two, doubling the lead.
Inexplicably, the Sabres challenged JVR’s goal for goalie interference, lost, went down a man for wasting everybody’s time, surrendered a third goal, this one credited to Matt Niskanen on a beautiful play from Kevin Hayes, and that was pretty much the game. The Sabres never looked in it after that.
The Flyers only gave up 17 shots, and Carter Hart stopped 16 of them to earn the victory.
Philadelphia is now 12-2-4 in home games this year, and Hart’s record is 9-1-2. That’s right. An .883 points-percentage, and only one regulation loss. That single game in which the Flyers were the home team and didn’t earn a point with Carter Hart starting the game was back on October 19. Two months ago.
