Three Stars
1. Brian Elliott
Without Elliott’s efforts in net, this game gets out of hand quite early. Although he allowed (hopefully only) four goals, he was absolutely sensational and stopped a ton of high quality chances. He’s received the tough task of being the road warrior for this team, getting the majority of his starts away from the Wells Fargo Center, but he’s handled it well. He did that again tonight, and kept the Flyers in it the entire game.
2. James van Riemsdyk
I think it’s safe to say that he’s got the scoring touch back. JVR continued his hot play with another two goal game tonight, giving him back-to-back games with two tallies. This gives him 12 goals on the season, and the team lead in goals. It’s almost like goal scorers are extremely streaky and we’re seeing JVR finally streak in the right direction with six goals in his last five games.
3. Travis Konecny
Despite not registering a point in this game, Konecny was all over the ice in this game. He was physical, skating hard, and generating plenty of quality chances. He was one of the best play-driving forwards in this game, in one you know he had been looking forward to.
Answering the bell
1. Can the power play keep the momentum going?
They would indeed! Kevin Hayes started the game off with a power play goal, continuing the Flyers’ recent hot play on the man advantage. Although, the struggles on the remaining power plays weren’t exactly a strong vote of confidence in either unit.
2. Can the Flyers have their cake and eat it too?
Well, no one ended up fighting Borowiecki, but Travis Konecny did start the game with a strong check on him.
Play of the night
Easily, it’s the JVR breakaway goal. It’s an amazing pass from Nicolas-Aube Kubel, and a great finish from JVR.
