Friday Morning Fly By: We’re back, baby!

*We’re a bit late this morning, but we were up late. Stop yelling at me. Anyway, the Flyers kicked off the season in an extremely fun way, scoring five entire hockey goals, holding Vegas to two on the back of a bad ass performance from Brian Elliott, and beating the Golden Knights in their own building. Fall asleep? We got you. RECAP!

*Wayne Simmonds made sure to let us all know right up front that he’s back, baby. [Philly.com]

*You know who else looked good? Mikhail Vorobyev. This kid is going to be fun to watch. [NBC Sports Philly]

*Vorobyev, for his part, is not taking any of this for granted. Good things happen when you give the kids a shot, folks! [Philly.com]

*Ivan Provorov had an impressive game, and spoke with the Vegas media about one impressive play in particular. [Hockeybuzz]

*After a career year and what some would call an MVP-caliber season, Claude Giroux could care less about earning personal praise and is focused on a bigger prize. [Philly.com]

*Have you been wondering what Marcus Hayes thinks of the return of James van Riemsdyk to Philadelphia? No? Well here it is anyway. [Philly.com]

*I know you’ve been sufficiently hyped by a game one win, but just in case you need a little more hyping, the Flyers released their 2018-19 hype video yesterday afternoon. [NBC Sports Philly]

*And finally, we at Broad Street Hockey continue our fun yearly tradition of picking the over/under on a bunch of seemingly random, but very well chosen Flyers stats heading into the season. It’s fun for us but also fun for you, because invariably one or more of us looks super dumb at the end of the season. Anyhoo, we’ve got part one here, and part two here, which includes the very important Gritty-related stats.
