Brandon Alderson signs ATO with Phantoms

Brandon Alderson, the 21-year-old fourth-year junior player of the Soo Greyhounds, has signed an amateur tryout contract with the Adirondack Phantoms. He’ll play in the AHL for the remainder of the regular season, a total of nine games.

Alderson signed an entry-level contract with the Flyers organization back on March 1. The Greyhounds lost to the Owen Sound Attack in the OHL playoffs over the weekend, capping Alderson’s junior career and allowing him to sign with the Phantoms. He’ll no-doubt be a pro level player next season considering he can’t play in the OHL anymore, and his tryout this season with the Phantoms could help us determine the level at which he plays next season.

Alderson was linemates with top Flyers prospect Nick Cousins with the Greyhounds. Cousins told Dustin Leed of The Hockey Guys that he expects to be in Glens Falls with the Phantoms on an ATO this weekend as well, but that could be held up considering Cousins reportedly has a hearing related to his sexual assault case tomorrow. Perhaps we’ll learn more after the hearing.
