The Flyers vs. Capitals rookie game was canceled a year ago due to the NHL lockout, but the two teams will get together again this year on September 9 in Arlington, Va. for the sixth annual event.
The game will take place at 3 p.m. at Kettler Capitals Iceplex, Washington’s practice facility, and the Caps will broadcast the game live on their website. No word on if the Flyers will also send a broadcast crew to DC for the game. It will be free of charge as always.
The Flyers hosted the game at the Wells Fargo Center in 2011, winning 3-2 in front of 11,000 fans. Washington has won both games played at Kettler — a 7-0 win in 2008 and a 4-3 win in 2010 — while the Flyers have won all three games they’ve hosted — 2011 at the WFC, a 5-3 win in 2007 and a 7-3 win in 2009, both in Voorhees.
Flyers training camp opens September 12 and will be held at the WFC, not Skate Zone, for three days before they hit the road to finish camp in Lake Placid. They’ve yet to announce the start of rookie camp, but it’ll likely be a few days before the September 9 scrimmage in DC.
