The playoffs are upon us not only in the NHL and AHL, but in the Canadian Hockey League as well. The Flyers have two top prospects facing off for a chance to play for a championship, while another pair of prospects has come up clutch in Calgary.

The Flyers had three prospects playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this season. Danick Martel of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, who they signed in early March to an entry-level contract, finished the season with an impressive 102 points in 64 games and added seven points in his team’s six playoff games. Martel also made his professional debut with the Phantoms, scoring one goal and adding two assists for three points in five games. He showed off his speed and some are comparing him to a Danny Briere-esque player.
The other two Flyers’ prospects in the QMJHL are still playing, and will be facing off against one another in a pivotal semi-final matchup. High scoring forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel of the Val-d’Or Foreurs and physical defenseman Samuel Morin of the Rimouski Oceanic will lead their teams against each other in a best of seven series starting tonight in Rimouski. Rimouski swept the season series four games to none, but the Foreurs will be looking for revenge as their President Cup hopes continue.

Top defensive prospect Travis Sanheim and late-round pick Radel Fazleev have come up clutch for the Calgary Hitmen in the playoffs. The duo has combined for 26 points in 12 games: 11 from Fazleev and 15 from Sanheim. The Hitmen took down the Kootenay Ice in a thrilling seven game series that saw three overtime games in the first round before Sanheim’s double overtime winner in game five of the conference semi-finals sunk the Medicine Hat Tigers. Their upcoming opponent, the Brandon Wheat Kings, took care of business in five games in both of their series thus far.

Over in the Western Conference of the WHL, there is another Flyers prospect still in action. Tyrell Goulbourne and his Kelowna Rockets swept their first round series before disposing of their next opponent in five games. The Rockets will play against the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Conference Final.
