Hands up, who’s following the Brandon Wheat Kings this year? They’re currently second in the WHL’s East Division, and third in the Eastern Conference. They’re fifth in the overall league.
In short: they’re doing pretty well. And their 6-2 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers last night certainly helped.
You know who helped get that win? Ivan Provorov, who had a goal and two assists on the night.

First off: Provorov’s cut to the front of the goal was awesome. He keeps the puck while getting by any potential threats, and just backhands it in perfectly.
Secondly: his entire sequence on the second goal (which came on the powerplay) is perfectly done. He calmly carried the puck back into the offensive zone, and had all of the Tigers’ penalty killers focusing directly on him – leaving a clear passing lane open to Nolan Patrick in the slot, who nobody was even thinking of.
Provorov, now with five goals and 20 points through 22 WHL games, is eighth in the league for defensemen scoring, and only one player ahead of him – Ethan Bear – is younger. (Also, yes, one of those ahead of him is Travis Sanheim!) He’s fifth in Wheat Kings scoring.
