Ray Emery, now with the Toronto Marlies, is still wearing his Flyers mask

The last NHL team Ray Emery has played for – and, at this rate, likely will ever play for – is the Philadelphia Flyers. Picked up in 2013-14, he played 28 games for the Flyers, posting a .903 save percentage; he came back the following season for 2014-15, playing 31 games and dropping to a .894 save percentage.

And… that was that. The Flyers got Steve Mason, who is wonderful; then, this past off-season they picked up Michal Neuvirth, who is also wonderful.

Emery, meanwhile, has bounced around. He was on a PTO at the Tampa Bay Lightning’s training camp, but was eventually released; he joined the Los Angeles Kings‘ AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign, on a PTO as well, and was also released.

But the Toronto Maple Leafs have too many injured goalies, and so, Emery was brought into the fold there, once again via PTO. He’s played just one game for their AHL affiliate, the Marlies, now: and he won it, too, which is always nice.

Oh, and then there’s the above picture. That is not a Toronto-style mask; that mask is much too orange. And there’s a piece of tape on it. You know, where the Flyers logo is.

I guess when you aren’t in the NHL anymore and bouncing around the minors, it doesn’t make sense to get new masks – still, it’s kind of neat to see him still repping the Flyers in some way.

s/t to /u/_GIROUXsalem on Reddit for noticing this! And shoutout to Emery as he continues his career.
