*Some real big August energy from the hockey media yesterday. We are bereft of links. Yesterday the Flyers and their god Gritty helped with the grand opening of the new hockey rink at the Fishtown Rec Center, which looks very cool. Some details, courtesy of Flyers PR:
This morning, Mayor Jim Kenney, City Council President and 5th District Councilman Darrell L. Clarke, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Comcast Spectator and Governor of the Philadelphia Flyers Daniel Hilferty, Philadelphia Flyers’ Gritty, and hockey enthusiasts celebrated the reopening of Fishtown Recreation Center’s newly remodeled hockey rink. The site’s remodel was made possible by the City’s Rebuild program, Philadelphia’s $500 million historic investment in public spaces, and a community partnership with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Hockey, futsal and pickleball fans of all ages now have access to a new rink in North Philadelphia after a $2.5 million investment has transformed this nostalgic site into a hockey oasis for years to come. The rink has been fully renovated from floor to ceiling with state-of-the-art materials to keep up with the sport’s demanding wear and tear.
After the ribbon cutting, the Philadelphia Flyers embraced the local community with outdoor games and inflatables.
Love seeing the team continue to do really good work for the City and its residents, particularly those most in need. Anyhoo…
*We’ve got a little deeper look at the Noah Cates extension, after the dust settled a bit. [Flyers]
*We’ve got it for the Cam York signing too. We love details! [Flyers]
*New Guy Garnet Hathaway is looking forward to helping the Flyers get back on track. [NBC Sports Philly]
*We’re still waiting on that Tony DeAngelo trade that everyone said was definitely happening (seems like it’s not happening anymore, huh?), but in the meantime Carolina went out and signed his bestie, Brenden Lemieux. We hardly knew ye. [Canes Country]
*And finally (sorry), the biggest stories coming out of the various NHL development camps, including a bit from your Philadelphia Flyers. [Sportsnet]
