Flyers make final two selections in 2023 Entry Draft

That’s a wrap, everybody! The Flyers have made their sixth and seventh round picks, and the draft is over for them.

With their 172nd overall pick, the Flyers selected Ryan MacPherson, a center who spent last season with the Leamington Flyers of the GOJHL.

MacPherson may have some offensive upside, but he’s certainly a bit of a swing on a potentially under-scouted player. He’s going the long route, as next season he’ll head to Penticton in the BCHL, and from there the University of New Hampshire, so he certainly has some developmental runway ahead of him. A potential high risk/high reward type of pick, but solid for this point in the draft.

And then to close things out, at 199, the Flyers selected yet another right handed defenseman in Matteo Mann.

And Mann is another swing of a pick – he only had five points playing with Chicoutimi in the QMJHL this season, and was used in a primarily shutdown defensive role. But he skates well, has good size, and was ranked favorably – in the top-100 by FC Hockey, Daily Faceoff, The Hockey News, and Central Scouting’s North American skaters – so pundits still seem to be a fan of his tools, and think there’s another gear in him that he’s yet to hit.

The Flyers are taking some chances here, and we’re excited to see how these pan out in a few years’ time.
