Jared Boll of the Columbus Blue Jackets has been suspended four games for hit late hit on the Flyers’ Pierre-Edouard Bellemare on Tuesday night.
Boll will forfeit $82,926.84 in salary with the suspension and is considered a repeat offender by the league’s Department of Player Safety.
The suspension is in addition to to the five minute major for interference and the game misconduct he was given during the game. Patrick Burke of the NHL’s Department of Player Safety said that Bellemare “was not eligible to be checked in any manner” and that the hit from Boll was “both excessively late and incredibly forceful.”
The “extreme lateness” and “predatory nature” of the hit is what forced the suspension, Burke said. They argued that Boll should have avoided or minimized the hit, but that he delivered the violent hit anyway.
Seems fair. Luckily, Bellemare was not injured on the play.
