The Philadelphia Flyers were supposed to come out of their game against the Detroit Red Wings on Black Friday with two points, and that’s exactly what they did, taking down the rebuilding Wings 6-1 on Friday evening.
Carter Hart made 32 saves for the win, and a bunch of Flyers skaters who needed goals scored them in the post-Thanksgiving victory.
Scott Laughton opened the scoring with his second goal in as many games, getting him on the scoresheet after going goalless in his first 11 games of the year and returning from injury last Saturday. In his first game back from the press box, Shayne Gostisbehere lit the lamp for his first power play tally of the season. Kevin Hayes notched his seventh of the year, giving him 5 points in the last 6 games. Oskar Lindblom picked up his tenth, after going scoreless in five straight.
And, finally, James van Riemsdyk ended his drought, beating Cal Pickard to get himself a goal for the first time after 10 straight without doing the main thing he gets paid to do.
It was a good night in Philly, as the Flyers moved into third place in the Metropolitan division with their third straight victory. The orange and black have now picked up nine of the last ten possible standings points, and look like a pretty damn good team.
