According to team’s official website, The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenseman T.J. Brennan (who is from here) to a multi-year contract. The length and total monetary value of the contract have yet to be released.
Brennan has been a dominant AHL player since his arrival to the organization. Brennan has accrued 12 goals and 27 assists this season for 39 points (as well as 69 PIMs (#nice)) in 47 games, which is good enough to lead Phantoms’ d-men in scoring and puts him fourth among AHL rearguards. This comes after he posted 21 goals and 39 assists for 60 points in 76 games during his first campaign with the Phantoms last season. After taking part in last year’s AHL All-Star game, Brennan was selected to represent Lehigh Valley again earlier this season. Unfortunately, an injury sidelined him and gave Oskar Lindblom the opportunity to play in the game.
Thanks to Brad Keffer’s tracking of shot attempt data for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms this season over at his site Phancy Stats, we can see Brennan is doing just fine racking up even-strength points to go along with his power play quarterbacking skills. The veteran blue liner leads all Phantoms’ d-men at 5-on-5 with 39 points (12 goals and 12 primary assists) and 178 shot attempts. Lehigh Valley is also plus-10 in goal differential when Brennan is on the ice, as he’s been on the ice for 44 Phantoms’ goals and 34 goals from the opponents. Despite his impressive counting stats, his 46.43 Corsi-for percentage and -5.81 relative Corsi for percentage is only better than Reece Willcox’s percentages for defensemen who have played 15 games or more for the Phantoms this season.
As mentioned above, Brennan is a native of the Philly area. Born in Willingboro, New Jersey, Brennan grew up in Moorestown. Maybe he’ll get a chance to play a few games for the hometown team at some point in his next contract.
