Flyers prospect report: Morgan Frost and Matthew Strome are in mid-season form

Notable Phantoms performers this week:

Philippe Myers (D): 3 GP, 2 goals, 10 shots, 2 PIM
Undrafted Free Agent

Myers scored a goal in Friday and Saturday’s contest. They were his first goals of the season. He had all of five goals last season in 50 games. It would be a rather safe bet to peg him in the double-digits by the end of the season if all goes well.

Mark Friedman (D): 3 GP, 1 goal, 1 assist, 4 shots
2014 3rd Round Pick, 86th overall

It took until February of last season for Friedman to score his first AHL goal. He’s now accomplished that in five games this season. The 22 year old has four points (1 G, 3 A) in his first six games. You can see his goal here.

Nicolas Aubé-Kubel (RW): 3 GP, 2 assists, 3 shots
2014 2nd Round Pick, 48th overall

After no points last weekend, NAK picks up a pair of assists in Friday’s game. He has five points (2 G, 3 A) in six games.

German Rubtsov (C): 3 GP, 2 goals, 1 assist, 6 shots
2016 1st Round Pick, 22nd overall

Rubstov seems to be finding himself rather quickly in his first season in the AHL. He has three goals and one assist in his first six games. Rubtsov had two goals in Saturday’s game, including the game-winner. Here is one of his goals.

Carsen Twarynski (LW): 3 GP, 1 assist, 3 shots, 2 PIM
2016 3rd Round Pick, 82nd overall

Twarynski notches his first point of the season in Friday’s game.

Taylor Leier (LW): 3 GP, 2 assists, 9 shots, 5 PIM
2012 4th Round Pick, 117th overall

Leier had a pair of assists in Saturday’s game. They were his first points of the season. After spending all of the 2017-18 season with the Flyers, I can’t imagine he is very happy being back in Lehigh Valley.

David Kaše (RW): 2 GP, 1 goal, 1 assist, 4 shots
2015 5th Round Pick, 128th overall

Kaše netted his second goal of the season on Sunday while on the power play.

Connor Bunnaman (C): 2 GP, 1 assist
2016 4th Round Pick, 109th overall

Bunnaman got his first career AHL point in Saturday’s game.

Carter Hart (G): 2 GP, 8 GA, 53 saves
2016 2nd Round Pick, 48th overall

Hart was in net for Friday and Saturday’s losses. The young netminder has struggled so far this season, giving up 15 goals in his first four games. He has a .865 SV%.

Notable Canadian junior performers this week:

Morgan Frost (C), Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (OHL)
2017 1st Round Pick, 27th overall

  • 10/17 – 1 goal, 3 assists, 2 shots, 10 for 17 FOW

2017 2nd Round Pick, 35th overall

  • 10/19 – 5 shots, 2 PIM
  • 10/20 – 2 shots, 4 PIM
  • 10/21 – 2 goals, 1 assist, 6 shots, 6 PIM/

So uh, Isaac, can you please cut out on the extracurricular stuff? He had misconduct penalties in Friday and Saturday’s games and has 26 penalty minutes in 12 games. Anyway, with three points on Sunday, he has 16 total points (9 G, 7 A).

Matthew Strome (LW), Hamilton Bulldogs (OHL)
2017 4th Round Pick, 106th overall

  • 10/17 – 4 assists, 4 shots, 7 for 12 FOW
  • 10/19 – 1 goal, 1 assist, 4 shots, 3 for 7 FOW
  • 10/20 – 2 goals, 1 assist, 3 shots, 4 PIM, 2 for 3 FOW/

Wednesday’s four-assist game was the first of his junior career. Strome has 18 points (6 G, 12 A) in 13 games this season. He is trending to have his best season (point-wise) of his OHL career.

Maksim Sushko (RW), Owen Sound Attack (OHL)
2017 4th Round Pick, 107th overall

  • 10/17 – 1 goal, 4 shots
  • 10/19 – 3 shots
  • 10/20 – 1 goal, 1 assist, 1 shot/

Sushko entered this week with just three assists in nine games. He was able to double his point-total with his first two goals of the season. We knew Sushko was better than what he had been putting out, so it’s encouraging to see that his season might start taking off offensively.

Wyatte Wylie (D), Everett Silvertips (WHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 127th overall

  • 10/19 – 1 assist, 4 shots, 2 PIM
  • 10/21 – 1 assist/

The points don’t stop coming for the offensive defenseman. Wylie now sits at 10 points (2 G, 8 A) in 11 games. He has also put 40 shots on net so far.

Egor Zamula (D), Calgary Hitmen (WHL)
Undrafted Free Agent

  • 10/16 – 1 assist, 1 shot
  • 10/17 – 4 shots

Lots of shots for Högberg this week, but still not points in his first 10 games this season.

No points for Bernhardt, but increased ice time following a brief injury to start the season.

Adam Ginning (D), Linköping HC (SHL)

  • 10/21 – 1 shot, 10:36 TOI/

Another SHL defenseman who has yet to put up a point in his first 10 games.

Olle Lycksell (RW/C), Linköping HC (SHL)
2017 6th Round Pick, 168th overall

With no points again this week, Lycksell sits at four points (1 G, 3 A) in 10 games.

Marcus Westfält (C), Brynäs IF (SHL)
2018 7th Round Pick, 205th overall

Marcus Westfält didn’t play any games for the big club or the J20 squad, with some hypothesizing that he is likely injured.

Felix Sandström (G), HV71 (SHL)
2015 3rd Round Pick, 70th overall

Sandström sits out both games this week. He also was the backup last week. Not a great sign.

Samuel Ersson (G), Västerås IK (Allsvenskan)
2018 5th Round Pick, 143rd overall

  • 10/19 – 4 GA, 26 saves/

With this week’s game, Ersson’s SV% slips to .921%. He also happened to be named to Sweden’s U20 squad for the upcoming 4 Nations Tournament.

Ivan Fedotov (G), Salavat Yulaev Ufa (KHL)
2015 7th Round Pick, 188th overall

Fedotov is actually up in the KHL for the moment because of an injury. He has not seen game-action as of yet.

Hain didn’t play this weekend and is likely out of the lineup with an injury.

Jay O’Brien (C), Providence College
2018 1st Round Pick, 19th overall

O’Brien still does not have a point through his first 4 games. He sat out Saturday’s game with an injury.

Brendan Warren (LW), University of Michigan
2015 3rd Round Pick, 81st overall

  • 10/19 – 1 assist, 2 shots, 4 PIM

Wyatt Kalynuk (D), University of Wisconsin
2017 7th Round Pick, 196th overall

  • 10/19 – 1 assist, 3 shots
  • 10/20 – 1 goal, 1 assist, 4 shots/

Fun fact: Kalynuk’s six points (3 G, 3 A) are just four off the NCAA lead.

Matej Tomek (G), University of Nebraska-Omaha
2015 3rd Round Pick, 90th overall

  • 10/20 – 5 GA, 10 saves/

That’s, umm…not a good debut for Tomek. He had been the 3rd string goalie leading up to Saturday’s game.
