Dale Weise placed on waivers

After trading Jordan Weal to the Arizona Coyotes four days ago, Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher is looking to move on from another forward; Dale Weise. Placed on waivers at noon today, Weise is signed through the 2019-20 season to a contract with a $2,350,000 cap hit.

The news comes after Weise, a veteran of close to 500 NHL games, sat out as a healthy scratch last night for the first time since October 9, 2018. He has appeared in a total of 42 games this season, tallying five goals and six assists in his time. At 5-on-5 he’s had a negative impact in terms of on-ice shot totals, with a -1.59% Corsi for RelT, but does posses a positive 3.1 expected goals for RelT.

Should he be claimed or sent to the Phantoms, the Flyers would have just 12 healthy forwards on the roster and two open spots to fill. That’s bound to change prior to their trip to Montreal to face the Canadiens on Saturday, as taking no extra forwards to an away game is certainly rare to see. Maybe this is a different situation because it’s just one game followed by a full week off, but I’d venture a guess that there’s at least 13 forwards on the roster that day. And one of them could be Weise!

It’ll just be a waiting game until noon tomorrow to see whether Weise ends up in a new organization entirely, in Lehigh Valley with the Phantoms, or if he remains with the Flyers.
