Following a three month stay in the AHL with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Mikhail Vorobyev looks to be joining the Philadelphia Flyers shortly. The news of his re-call to Philadelphia broke in the middle of the night when his agent, Dan Milstein, tweeted out his congratulations.
Congratulations to Mikhail Vorobyev on earning a call up to Philadelphia Flyers! Well Deserved!!! #AreYouGoldStar?

Vorobyev, 22, has been on a roll of late, scoring two goals and picking up a total of eight points in his last six games, while also driving play at even strength alongside his new linemates Justin Bailey and Colin McDonald. Together, the three have been the Phantoms’ most consistent line ever since Bailey was acquired ten days ago, leading to Vorobyev’s +11.5% Corsi for rel across that stretch of games.
Vorobyev had appeared in seven games with the Flyers at the beginning of the season, scoring his first NHL goal and picking up his first NHL assist, but quickly fell out of favor with the coaching staff, and, as his play began to dip, was subsequently loaned to the Phantoms. Since his return he’s played in 32 games, scoring 6 goals and assisting on 16 other markers, for 22 points in total — a pretty nice .69 points per game pace. He’s once again been one of the team’s best play drivers and defensive forwards, with a +3.13% CF rel on the season.
With Carter Hart also likely on his way back up, the Flyers roster would stand at 24/23 players, so something else is bound to happen. Our best guess is that Dale Weise would loaned to the Phantoms, since he does not require waivers, or that they’ll delay either Vorobyev’s or Hart’s re-call by a day and look to waive someone else, maybe Phil Varone or Mike McKenna. That, or they’re about to drop a trade on us and we’ll have even more to discuss. For now, all we know is that it seems more than likely that Vorobyev will be with the Flyers for their game on Monday versus the Winnipeg Jets.
Update: The Flyers have since made Vorobyev’s call-up official, as well as Hart’s, and they also announced that they have loaned Weise to the Phantoms.
