Michael Chaput, a center from the Lewiston MAINEiacs (seriously) of the QMJHL. He tallied 10 points in 29 games two years ago, and he stepped up last year, scoring 28 goals and 27 assists in 68 games. He was injured at the back end of the 2008-09 season with the MAINEiacs, according to Maine Hockey Journal.
Michael Chaput is ready to get back on the ice after missing a good portion of last season due to a shoulder injury.
“My shoulder surgery went great,” said Michael Chaput. “Rehab went perfect, they said three to six months, and that’s what it was. (I) came back to training camp with no pain, no nothing.”
Due to his injury, Chaput missed the World Under-17 Challenge right after Christmas. Although only playing in 29 games, the NHL Central Scouting Bureau saw his potential and ranked Chaput as a “B” prospect for the 2010 NHL Draft.
“I was for sure disappointed; missing that big tournament was part of my development. Missing the rest of the year was part of (my) development too.”
“First of all, this will be a big year for Michael because he didn’t get a chance show his abilities last year,” said Don MacAdam, the team’s President and Head Coach.
Chaput, who has an accent mark in his name, has a brother in Carolina Hurricanes organization, playing in the AHL.
